4 my tree wall...

So for about 2 years, I've wanted to get those tall vinyl trees to put up on my dining room wall. Well on Etsy, they're like in the $150 range and I just haven't been able to justify that. I watched Design Star this last year and one of the guys on there painted these really cool trees and I said one day I'd do that. Well I don't know what it was this morning, but I realized I already had all the supplies to paint trees, so I went ahead and just did it! :) My husband was a little surprised to come home and find out I had painted. Luckily, I have a fantastic husband and he loved it! Here's my finished product...

I just love how it turned out! I have about a gallon and a half left of the Silver Drop paint (by Valspar) that I painted on the walls about 6 months ago. I also had purchased a Bright White (also by Valspar) at the same time and had a whole gallon. I was a bit worried about the two being too similar, but when I opened the cans up again I realized that it probably would work. The light gray color was in flat enamel and the white was in semi-gloss. So you can see a really cool sheen difference when you look at it from an angle. I love that...

It only took me about 2 hours from start to finish. I started by taping off the trees. I did a mixture of skinny trees, fat trees, ones with branches and some without. I just taped until it looked good. :) I used the green frog tape and it was great! I was a little worried, because I have never been able to get clean lines in any paint job I've done. But I used a tip I had heard about to paint over the tape with the original color on the wall. So I took my Silver Drop color and used an angle brush to brush over the inside of the tree up against the tape. It dried really quickly...like by the time I had finished the last tree, I was able to start painting the white on the first tree. I used a small roller (and the angle brush on the top and bottom) to put the Bright White color up on the wall. I did two coats, let it dry and pulled the tape off! Super easy and fast! It just adds the perfect amount of character to our dining room.

In fact, now that we're getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, I thought it would be fun to write on little leaves what we're thankful for throughout the month, and put them up on the trees. We'll see how that goes!! :)

oh what a wonderful idea! I had a thankful tree on my wall a couple thanksgivings ago where everyone made their own leaves and put what they were thankful for on them and hung them on the construction paper tree - but I love your idea so much better!

you did a great job!
