We had a trunk-or-treat with our church tonight, so the kids were super excited to wear their halloween costumes. This year, I decided to make their costumes. Last year, they wore store bought costumes because I wasn't in the mood to make them. But right after halloween, I saw this costume and knew I needed to have my kids be owls for this halloween.
I love how the costumes turned out...
(my middle one is a goofy one!)
For the hats, I had my friend Tiff crochet a cream colored ear flap hat. You can't really tell in the photos, but I added little ear tassels to the top and cut out the eyes and nose out of felt and just hot glued them on.
The shirt part was really easy. I picked white thermal long sleeve shirts from Old Navy. My daughter is actually wearing a boys thermal because I couldn't find one in the girls' section. I got white blizzard fleece (at Joann's!) for the feather ruffles. I measured along the bottom of the shirt and just freehanded the scallops. I hot glued it down and just moved my way up the shirt...measuring, cutting and glueing. :)
For the wings, I picked 4 colors of brown felt (just bought it at Joann's on sale!). I sort of followed the instructions in the pattern, but kinda made my own. My printer was being dumb, so I just freehanded cutting each wing piece out. I hot glued each piece to each other just at the top. I hot glued a little piece of velcro to the bottom wing at the top, and also on the matching shoulder of the shirt. Each wing had a piece of elastic sewn to the bottom so they could wear it around their wrist and really flap their wings! :)
They looked so cute trunk-or-treating... :)
