So our kitchen is pretty small, and it has very limited cabinet space. In fact, we only have three drawers total. For three and a half years, I've been trying to figure out how to get more storage in our kitchen. A while ago, I started searching for a short and wide dresser....you know, the kind with lots of drawers? I wanted something that I could refurbish and make my own.
Well wouldn't you know, our dresser in our bedroom was just that dresser. After some rearranging of furniture last week, I moved our dresser into the dining room and I loved it...but I still had to paint it. Here's the before picture, well it's after I plucked the ugly flower motif off the front...but you still get the picture....ugly honey colored dresser...
Now if you know anything about me, it's that I hate to sand down furniture! That's the main reason that has held me back from refinishing every. single. piece of furniture in my home. :) Well now that's all about to change because I found the best product out there since sliced bread! And the cost was only $18.
This stuff worked like magic and was so easy to use! I actually did 2 coats of this...right on top of the wood with no sanding. I only did 2 coats because I really wanted to make sure I did my job and covered everything good. You could probably get away with one coat just fine. And it dried so quickly too. I was able to paint the whole dresser, then paint the drawers. As soon as I was done with the first coat, I was able to start immediately on the second coat. Just make sure that whatever brush you use is a replaceable one...this is oil based paint, so it is extremely difficult to get off anything. I just ended up throwing my brush away. But maybe you know a secret I don't! :)
I went to pick out my paint and I settled on a color...Appletini by Behr. I got it in high gloss because I wanted a nice shine on the cabinet.
It took me the majority of the day painting, 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of green. I bought to different kinds of hardware and just used the existing holes in the dresser. I really, really loved how it turned out!
See the before and after...so much better right?
Thanks for looking! :)
